My new book Reviving Work Ethic is not for everybody, but then again, it’s a leadership book, not meant for the mass market.
It releases nationwide on January 5th, but advanced copies have already leaked into the marketplace and the book is drawing sharp critiques from “unintended readers.”
For the reason, let this serve as fair warning to anyone considering the purchase of this book.
DO NOT READ Reviving Work Ethic
…if you do not lead, manage, or influence others in the workplace.
…if you feel entitled to a better job than the one you have.
…if the quality of your work has no correlation to your self esteem or personal pride.
…if you’re a trust fund baby who’s never had to work overtime to make ends meet.
…if you think work should always be fun and that no one should ever do anything that doesn’t make them happy or leave them feeling totally fulfilled.
…if you think that employees should be given periodic raises whether or not they have done anything to merit them.
…if winning a free weekend trip to Vegas would make you happier than winning the recognition and approval of the most respected people in your industry.
…if you think calling in sick when you want a day off is an acceptable practice.
…if you think high school dropouts are sufficiently prepared for entry into today’s workforce.
…if you think most college graduates are sufficiently prepared for entry into today’s workforce.
…if you believe that “Made in America” means as much today as it did in 1950. (Or even in 2010.)
…if you believe that customer service is still alive and well and is a reasonable expectation of consumers in today’s marketplace.
…if you are under the impression that today’s youth are no different from those you grew up with. (Same general values and behaviors.)
…if you think employers should not be involved in the development of the core values of their people. (i.e. you feel that parents and teachers are doing an adequate job of developing core values.)
…if you believe that the current talent pool is chock full of kind of people who have the work ethic you need to run your business.
…if you have participated in the Occupy movement.
…if you don’t currently occupy a job (or are, at least, in relentless pursuit of one.)
—if you don’t like to read books that will challenge you to become a better leader.
Okay, you’ve been warned.
