If you want to see a poster child for work ethic, meet Beth Miller, a modern day Rosie-the-Riveter.
I don’t know Beth, but the company she works for Mr. Rooter – part of the Dwyer Group – is a client of mine. And this is a feel good story worth reading.
I came across a short video of a ceremony where Beth was presented with an award by Dina Dwyer-Owens, CEO of the Dwyer Group. Dina is a Past President of the IFA (International Franchise Association) and one of my favorite leaders (and people) on the planet. She has built an incredible service-driven organization on a solid foundation of four core work ethic values, and she is committed to building people – and then heaping generous helpings of praise, recognition, and rewards for living out the values in her company.
At the risk of sounding chauvinistic, it’s not everyday you encounter a female plumber who drives a mean backhoe. But Beth will hop off the tractor and climb under your house without even flinching if that’s what it takes to repair your sewer. And she comes to work everyday with a smile on her face, a song in her heart, and a desire to get better at her job. In so doing, she makes everyone around her better.
From her determination to get hired when Mr. Rooter wasn’t hiring, to her unselfishly crediting her team for her success, to her relentless determination to completely WOW her customers, Beth Miller is my runaway Work Ethic Hero of the Week.
Watch the video below and see if Beth Miller doesn’t inspire you to raise your game, too.
Note to Leaders: Are you going to the same lengths to recognize and reward great work ethic as Mr. Rooter and the brands of the Dwyer Group? Remember that “what gets rewarded gets repeated.”

What a great example! In addition to an amazing work ethic, she quickly recognizes the role of her team in her success. While a top performer with a great attitude, she shares the credit. Refreshing.
We are so completely proud of our teammate Beth Miller! She never says that’s not my job and always looks for ways to over deliver to our valued clients! Thank you for recognizing her!
