Aaron Stadler is one of hundreds of people holding hand-made cardboard signs on busy intersections throughout Denver today. But unlike that vast majority, he’s not asking for a hand out; he’s asking for work.
Don’t dismiss him among the typical “will work for food” panhandlers (most of which aren’t really looking for work at all) because Aaron’s seriously wanting a job. A real job. He’s nicely groomed and professionally dressed and he’s ready for an interview. If you’d give him one, I bet he shows up on time and would be willing to start at the bottom and do anything you asked him to do.
“I’ve tried all the traditional ways of finding work and I’m just not having any luck” Arron told me. “This is better than sitting around at home waiting for the phone to ring.” Aaron’s modest sign includes a website where his resume and contact information is posted – http://i-want-a-job.com.
Aaron is a reminder of how suddenly things can change and how close you and I may be to making our own cardboard sign. Give thanks for your daily bread. Then, finish what you’re working on and instead of taking your usual break, do something extra that’s not required of you to add increased value to the organization you work for.
Glance at this photo a couple of times today as you dedicate your day’s work to Aaron Stadler.
